Gem Match: Match-3 Puzzle

Gem Match is a free match-3 puzzle game. Swap two neighbouring gems to line up three or more of the same color in a row or column, and they clear from the board. The gems above fall into the gap, and new gems drop in from the top, sometimes setting off more matches on their own for a combo bonus.

1. Drag a gem onto a neighbouring gem to swap them. You can also tap one gem, then tap its neighbour.
2. A swap only counts if it makes a match. If it doesn't, the gems slide back and you keep the move.
3. Each level shows its goal and move limit before you start. Reach the goal before your moves run out.
4. Win to unlock the next level. Moves you have left over turn into bonus points.

Bigger matches leave a special gem behind. It fires when you match it again, or when another blast hits it, so specials can set each other off in a chain.

1. Match 4 in a line to make a striped line gem. It clears its whole row or column.
2. Match in an L or T shape to make a bomb. It clears the 3×3 square around it.
3. Match 5 in a line to make a rainbow gem. Swap it with any gem to clear every gem of that color.
4. Swap two special gems together to fire both at once. Swap a rainbow with a line gem or bomb, and every gem of that color turns into one and goes off.

There are 20 levels, and each one gets harder. Early levels give you plenty of moves and a single goal. Later levels add a sixth gem color, which makes matches rarer, tighter move limits, and two goals at once.

Goals come in four kinds: reach a target score, collect a number of gems of one color, clear all the pink jelly by making matches on top of it, or break all the wooden crates by making matches right next to them. Thick jelly and crates with metal bands take two hits.

Beating a level earns one star. A high enough score earns a second and third star, and your best stars for every level are saved in your browser.

Yes. Gem Match is free to play in your browser on desktop or mobile, with no login, no download, and no in-game purchases.

How many levels are there?

There are 20 levels. Each one unlocks when you beat the level before it, and the difficulty rises as you go.

What happens if there are no moves left on the board?

If no swap on the board can make a match, the gems are shuffled automatically. It doesn't cost you a move.

Is my progress saved?

Yes. Unlocked levels and your best stars are saved in your browser's local storage. Clearing site data or switching devices starts you over.

Can I play with a keyboard?

Yes. Click the board, then use the arrow keys to move the outline, Enter or Space to pick a gem, and an arrow key to swap it with its neighbour.
